Bellini Studies 2015
Watercolour and pencil on paper

35 × 39 cm ea.

I made this series of watercolours to see what would happen when the figures in Giovanni Bellini’s paintings were removed and the formal qualities of his work took centre stage; would the serenity and purity of his vision remain? I often wonder what sort of artist he would have become in the 20th Century. A Donald Judd figure perhaps or a Rothko?
