Gaze
Liadin Cooke 2000

Gaze was made in response to Leonardo da Vinci’s Burlington Cartoon at the National Gallery in London. Each drawing is a magnified detail of the space between the gaze of the subjects in the cartoon made not long after the birth of my first child. When looking down at him in my arms, I realised that that look between the Madonna and child in pre 20th Century painting was real. They are drawings about intense love and wonder.
